Litigating Title IX

March 9

Litigating Title IX (12:00pm – 1:00pm HST)

For decades, attorneys have been representing girls, boys, women, and men in courts to challenge institutions that fail to live up to the legal requirements of Title IX.  Learn about some of these lawsuits from award-winning attorney, Arthur H. Bryant, Esq, who represented clients in the very first Title IX lawsuit and is still filing Title IX lawsuits today. Mr. Bryant will reflect on his own journey in high impact litigation and his thoughts on the future of Title IX.

Speaker:

  • Arthur H. Bryant, Esq., Partner, Bailey Glasser, LLP

  • Moderator: Troy J.H. Andrade ‘11, Associate Professor, William S. Richardson School of Law

Arthur H. Bryant of Bailey Glasser, LLP, is the former Chairman and Executive Director of Public Justice, a national public interest law firm that specializes in cutting-edge, impact litigation. He has won precedent-setting victories in civil rights, workers’ rights, consumers’ rights, constitutional law, toxic torts, class actions, mass torts, and access to justice litigation. The National Law Journal has twice named him one of the 100 Most Influential Attorneys in America.

Early in his career, Arthur brought and tried the case that forced the admission of women to Philadelphia’s previously all-male Central High School. After joining Public Justice, he was lead trial counsel in the first Title IX case tried against a university for discriminating against its women athletes and potential athletes. Since that time, he has successfully represented more female (and male) athletes in Title IX litigation against colleges and universities than any lawyer in the country – including by winning settlements with eight schools at Bailey Glasser in the last year alone.

In recognition of his work, on November 1, 2021, The National Law Journal honored Arthur as a Sports Law Trailblazer for advancing and enforcing Title IX.
