Prof. Forman Book Release: Legal Actions for Future Generations

Wednesday, February 24, 2021 - 4:00pm to 5:00pm

Legal Actions for Future Generations is inspired by the landmark 1993 Minors Oposa vs Factoran case in the Philippine Supreme Court which paved the way for legal actions on behalf of future generations. The decision heralded a new era of advocacy that builds upon ancient philosophical roots. David Forman and Emilie Gaillard approach the topic with multi-/inter-disciplinary lenses, exploring philosophical as well as legal and scientific foundations for taking action on behalf of future generations  Professors Forman and Gaillard present a collection of hi,ghly-regarded as well as emerging authors who explore both global failures and successes in addition to new ways of conceiving justice that are currently evolving in order to protect future generations. Among other things, the book considers the nuclear industry, climate change, rights of nature, the movement towards a human right to the environment and transhumanism.Professor Forman joined the Richardson Law faculty in 2010, teaching courses in administrative law, appellate advocacy, legal writing, food security, and a variety of environmental topics in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to directing the Environmental Law Program, he is a Faculty Specialist with the Ka Huli Ao Center for Excellence in Native Hawaiian Law. Professor Forman is an active scholar and presenter on environmental and cultural resources law, civil rights, and social justice issues.  Join Zoom Meeting: https://hawaii.zoom.us/j/94957164628 Meeting ID: 949 5716 4628Passcode: DavidF
