Barclay "Clay" Thomas Samford

Mr. Samford, a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Environment and Natural Resources Division, represents federal agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and Department of Energy in litigation national-wide involving compliance with environmental laws. He has been in this position since 2000.

Principal practice areas include the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, the National Forest Management Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.

From 1999-2000, Mr. Samford served as law clerk to Judge John C. Porfilio, a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. In the summer of 1999 he was a law clerk for Justice Raymond Austin, a member of the Supreme Court of the Navajo Nation.

Mr. Samford has taught about environmental law topics at the Department of Justice National Advocacy Center.
