Biography

Bennett J. Chin is the Managing Partner of the Hawaiʻi office of Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani in Honolulu.  Mr. Chin’s practice is primarily focused on representing and counseling architects and engineers.  He has more than 25 years of experience and is recognized by Best Lawyers® in the areas of Construction Law, Construction Litigation and Commercial Litigation.  His construction law practice includes construction defect claims, delay impact and loss productivity claims, professional negligence claims, construction contract and payment disputes.  Mr. Chin has assisted clients on a wide variety of projects including shopping centers, airports, municipal works, transportation projects, residential projects, hospital projects, commercial high-rises, restaurants and government buildings.

His legal career has spanned being a partner in a small civil litigation practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, to serving as a Senior Complex Litigation Attorney with Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold, LLP in their San Francisco offices.

Later, Bennett served as Claims Consultant for a Professional Liability Insurance Carrier before moving to Hawaii to continue his private practice.

He frequently gives seminars on loss prevention and risk management and has lectured for numerous organizations, including the American Institute of Architects, the American Council of Engineering Companies, the American Society of Interior Designers, the Structural Engineers Association of Hawaii, the University of Hawaiʻi School of Architecture, the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley and the Pacific Building Trade Expo.
