Brian R. Huffman

Brian Huffman holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Drake University and a JD from Drake University Law School. He earned his MLIS degree from Saint Catherine University. He practiced law prior to becoming a law librarian and is admitted to the Minnesota and Federal bars. His areas of practice were family law, immigration, and estate planning.

His duties include managing the law school’s Westlaw Edge and Lexis+ accounts in addition to coordinating and marketing the law library's e-resources, teaching legal technology plenaries, maintaining the library website, and facilitating LibGuides. He is involved in the law school institutional repository and UH Open Educational Resources(OER).

He maintains active membership in national and local professional organizations. He is a past Chair of both the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Placement Committee and the AALL Legal Information Services to the Public special interest section and the incoming Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect of the Legal Innovation & Technology special interest section. Huffman is a past President of the Western Pacific Chapter of the AALL. He served as the President of the Hawaiʻi Library Association. His service included the AALL CLE and Practice-Oriented Education & Publication Task Force, the AALL U.S. News & World Task Force, and the Advancing Access to Justice Special Committee. Prof. Huffman instructs on legal technology currently in use, as well as emerging technology.

Professor Huffman lives in Honolulu with his lifelong partner, Amy, and their wire fox terrier (Mortimer) and a cat (Klaus). He enjoys bicycling, baking, and writing fiction.
