Jason H. P. Kravitt

Jason is the founder of Mayer Brown’s securitization practice and was co-chair of the firm from 1998-2001. He has helped the firm's clients create some of the most significant securitization products used in the capital markets today (such as the use of true liquidity in ABCP Vehicles) and is well known for being a Co-Founder of the Securitization Industry’s original trade association;  leading industry groups in connection with new legislation or regulation; helping to lead large securitization transactions such as MLEC ($100 billion) and Straight A funding ($60 billion) and large RMBS mortgage litigation settlements such as the BofA/BNY Mellon $8.5 billion settlement. 

Jason has been listed as the “pre-eminent securitization lawyer” by Chambers Global and described as, “a quarter back figure who is ‘an incredible legal strategist and a fantastic leader’” according to clients in Chambers USA.  He is consistently rated in the highest category by lawyer ratings guides such as Best Lawyers in America, The Legal 500 and the like.  He also is, or has been, an Adjunct Professor of Law at Northwestern University Law School and New York University Law School and an Adjunct Professor at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.  Jason is or has been a Director of each of the Structured Finance Industry Group (“SFIG”) in the US, the Securitization Board of AFME in London in the EU, and The China Securitization Forum (CSF) in Beijing in China.  Each is a securitization industry trade association.  He is also (i) the Chairman of the Cameron Kravitt Foundation, which funds programs at teaching hospitals such as the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Weil-Cornell Medical Center,  University of California at San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital, and Addenbrooke’s Hospital at Cambridge University, to teach residents how to help families who have had children die to deal with their grief and (ii) a member of the Board of Directors of the SFIG Charitable Foundation, which helps children of at risk families obtain counseling, mentors, education and post education career opportunities.   

Jason is the editor of, and a contributing author to, The Securitization of Financial Assets, a leading legal treatise in the field of Securitization.

Jason has been (i) chosen by the Financial Times as one of the 10 most innovative lawyers in America, (ii) chosen by “Best Lawyers of the Year” and Global Fund Awards of Corporate Live Wire, respectively, as the “Best Lawyer in Securitization” and “Securitization Lawyer of the Year” in NYC, (iii) awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award for contributions to the capital markets by IFLR, (iv) awarded the Outstanding Contribution to the Securitization Industry by SFIG, (v) received an award for outstanding contributions to Securitization by the CSF, (vi) chosen by Legal 500 as a member of their initial class of inductees in their new Hall of Fame (for six years in a row of high client praise for excellence, (vii) received the first ever award from IMN of Euromoney for his lifetime contributions to securitization, and (viii) received the Distinguished Alumnus Award for his Outstanding Achievements from the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at The Johns Hopkins University.   

Jason graduated in 1969 with an AB, Phi Beta Kappa, from the Johns Hopkins University, a JD, cum laude, in 1972 from Harvard Law School, and a Dipl. Comp. Law from Cambridge University in the UK in 1973.
