Renee M. Jones is a Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Boston College Law School, where she teaches and writes in the areas of corporate and securities law. Her scholarship focuses on corporate governance, securities enforcement, and the federal-state relationship in corporate regulation. Her recent article, The Unicorn Governance Trap, published in the University of Pennsylvania Law Review Online, highlights the risks posed by the increasing number of unicorns (private companies valued at $1 billion or more) to investors, employees, consumers and society.  Professor Jones recently testified on this topic before the Subcommittee on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship, and Capital Markets of the House Financial Services Committee at a hearing entitled Examining Private Market Exemptions as a Barrier to IPOs and Retail Investment and before the SEC’s Investor Advisory Committee.  She also discussed her research on unicorn risks at the Annual Meeting of the North American Securities Administrators Association in 2018.  Professor Jones is a frequent commentator on corporate and securities law issues. She has appeared at conferences at law schools and professional societies across the country and abroad.

Professor Jones received her AB from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and her J.D. (cum laude) from Harvard Law School. In 2005-2006, she was the Eugene P. Beard Faculty Fellow in Ethics at Harvard University’s Edmond J. Safra Foundation Center for Ethics. Professor Jones is a member of the American Law Institute and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and has served as the Co-Chair of the Securities Law Committee of the Boston Bar Association.  In 2010, she received the Faculty Award for Inspirational Achievement from the Boston College Law Business & Law Society.
