Biography

Mr. Hart is a member of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American College of Trial Lawyers, and numerous other professional organizations. Before his service as Chief Public Defender for Hawai‘i, in 1966-1967 he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Martin Pence, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Hawai‘i. Mr. Hart has been selected for listing in "The Best Lawyers in America" every year since the publication was founded, in 1983. Mr. Hart has authored or co-authored numerous professional publications, and from 1995 to 2009, he often appeared as a guest commentator on Court TV/truTV. He has taught the Hawai‘i Innocence Project course since its inception in 2005.
