Notes

The class is a practical and focused legal review of the principles involved with construction law in Hawaiʻi. We will take a peek under the edifices and cover basic statutory and contract law as it affects owners, architects, contractors and sureties on construction projects. Topic areas covered include an analysis of parties, contract types, licensing, architects/design, bidding, security/funding issues, breaches of contract, changes, delays and time considerations, the economic loss rule, mechanic's lien and bond claims, alternative dispute resolution issues, and other related topics. We will address typical legal concerns seen in practice and how legal precedent is applied to resolve problems involving construction disputes.
