Securing a Field Placement
Students secure their own field placements. Students are responsible for identifying and obtaining the field placement. All field placements must be approved by the Field Placement faculty prior to registering for the Field Placement course. As a part of the learning experience, students initiate contacts and make the arrangements as to start and end dates and days and hours of service. Student submit resumes and if desired, are interviewed, with no guaranteed placements. Field placements are secured on merit.
Overview of Law School Coursework for Field Placements
In addition to the work performed at the field placement, students are required to attend a mandatory class that sets forth the requirements for the field placement course. Students will participate in ongoing communication with their field placement supervisor and the law school field placement faculty regarding their experiences via email and/or phone. Ongoing journals as referenced in the syllabus provide opportunities for student reflection, feedback, and shared understanding of the nature of the work at the field placement. Weekly timesheets are submitted via the Law School’s website forms. Students are responsible for submitting all required documentation (primarily through online forms) in a timely manner. Field placements are credit/no credit and will be determined based upon the student’s performance in the field as evaluated by the student’s field placement supervisor and faculty member.
