Current Issues in Health Law in Hawaii will provide an overview of the most important issues in the field of health law, as practiced in Hawaii. Discussions and presentations will cover the framework of Medicare and Medicaid, the False Claims Act, and hot topics in medical malpractice litigation, as well as the Affordable Care Act, patient privacy laws, and the current path of healthcare transformation in Hawai`i. The class will focus not only on updating students as to recent changes in each of these areas, but also on identifying common themes and trends for aspiring lawyers to watch as healthcare continues to undergo reform. At the completion of the course, students will have the opportunity to select one of several topics on which to write a 10 page paper. Each day of the course will focus on one subtopic in the spectrum of health law. The course will be led by current practicing attorneys in the Healthcare Practice Group at Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing. There will be 8 classes: Tuesday & Thursday, 7:20 PM-9:00 PM, March 31, April 2,7,9,14,16,21, and 23.
